ABOUT la-condition-japonaise

La-condition-japonaise is a curatorial project initiated by Shintaro Miyazaki (Media- and Soundtheorist) and Eri Kawamura (Curator, Art-Writer, Art Historian) in April 2007 and expanded to a NPO in 2008. It tries to explore as well as re-map the diversity of japanese contemporary cultures and arts (fine art, experimental music, performance art, dance etc.). The center of our activity is Berlin.

La-condition-japonaise is a neologism derived from the frech expression “la condition humaine” which means the state of mankind. With this in mind “la-condition-japonaise” can be defined as the neverending search of the state of contemporary japanese arts. Therefore “la-condition-japonaise” is also permanently trying to negate or affirm existing prejudices about Japan and is seeking for a more accurate view on the diversity of contempoary japanese culture and society.

We are trying to estabilsh and extend the network of emerging japanese artists by

  1. promoting events, exhibitions, concerts by japanese artists in Berlin by mailing-list and webpage
  2. promoting informations about japanese contemporary artists living and working in Berlin
  3. organizing, curating, supporting exhibitons, concerts and other events in Berlin
